What is the Avengers?(for the people who don’t read comic and want just a glimpse)
Wiki: “The Avengers is a superhero team that appear in the fictional Marvel Universe. The team, comprising existing Marvel characters variously created by writer-editor Stan Lee, artist and co-plotter Jack Kirby and others, first appeared in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963).”
The Avengers is a super hero team that is uniquely dynamic. They constantly lose and gain new members and is one of the biggest super hero organizations in all comics. Here is a list of heroes that appear in Avengers consistently, in order or importance by me:
Captain America - team leader, the original super soldier of WWII with a shield
Iron Man - Genius, source of income for Avengers
The Incredible Hulk - Scientist with a high strength to anger ratio
Thor - Muscle with magic hammer that shoots lightning
AntMan - Giantman/Goliath/Yellowjacket - scientist with shrinking/growing technology
Wasp - Scientist with Ant-Man’s technology to shrink. also has wings and can shoot crap out her hands
Hawkeye - Guy with bow and a little bit of tech to go with the arrows. to counter Green Arrow in JLA(DC universe)
Black Panther - Token black guy, King of Wakanda, powers are athleticism - very creative comic guys
Scarlet Witch - Daughter of Magneto, a mutant, power to control probability - should go play the lottery
Quicksilver - Son of Magneto, a mutant, runs very very very very fast
Namor the Submariner - Aquaman of the Marvel universe but can fly
Vision - A “synthezoid” (some type of android) with eye beams and can alter his density to become light(flight) and also very dense to fortify his body.
(I know what you’re all thinking? Where’s the token asian? In the new Ultimate Avengers, comic people made the wasp asian looking. I mean seriously, not one asian scientist? BS. I would LOVE to see an Asian Hulk spewing obscenities in a chinese accent in hulk form: “Youuuuuu wood not-a like me when I’m-a mad.”)
There are more members but not worth mentioning. The movie will probably only be made for the top 5 heroes mentioned. Unless Marvel wants to milk every dollar out of it’s super hero arsenal…
Even before the Avengers movie comes out, I think most of the top characters in the Avengers should get their own movies. Some already have such movies as Hulk, the new Iron Man and Quicksilver was seen in X-Men movie.
Then again, like most superhero movies, the first Avengers movie will be how they all come together with the help of Nick Fury, director of SHIELD. Fight a few wimpy battles with local super villains to gain public support then fight a big villain or team of villains at the end (why else have a giant team).
The second movie will probably involve fighting in the intergalactic Skrull-Kree war. Kree are aliens who look like humans/ human super heroes while Skrull are green-shapeshifting-superhuman-strength-using aliens that pretty much look like orcs in the LOTR series.
I don’t see an Avengers movie being successful because so far most the of super-hero movies have sucked. They are getting better but still not on par with other movie blockbusters like Saving Private Ryan. Where the battles are fought with real people for a cause worth dying for with people dying for.
What I’m saying is that super-hero movie will be even more spectacular if the characters developed more in the movies which in turn made them feel more real.
Batman Begins was a decent movie because the death of his parents made him a mean SOB and the movie portrayed that more or less.
The Spider-man movies were also successful due to the very real problems Peter Parker faced in real life.
Comics are supposed to a drawn a connection for readers from problems of the real world to a world where anything can happen. Comics was a way for people to cope with the The Great Depression. How do you do this in the hour and thirty a movie provides?
Perhaps James Cameron can make the four-hour masterpiece that will become The Avengers.
Here’s the score if your counting (2/5). That’s the number of main characters that already have their movies.
